We are finishing up our Origins Series next week with a message called "Pneuma." Its going to be a good finish to one of my favorite original series. In two weeks, we begin a series we ripped off from Life Church in Oklahoma called God-Love-Sex.
We recreated the series' graphics and have tweaked the messages to fit our style. We are introducing some of the messages with songs from "Chicago" including "Will You Still Love Me" and "I Can't Fight This Feeling Any Longer." Our video and drama team is doing some creative stuff as well. Putting together these pieces is fun for our team, reinforces the message, and gives people something creative to talk about.
But, how do we really spring board into our new series, getting the word out through the most effective advertising medium, and doing it all on a budget of $250? I'll explain what we do.
1. WE UNLEASH THE GREAT COMMISSION DRIVE IN OUR PEOPLE - Our people want their friends to have significant spiritual experiences with Christ. We do our best to create remarkeable environments with good flow, great presentation, and Christo-centric expressions. Our people will invite their friends to an atmosphere like that. They will not invite their friends to atmosphere that is poorly thought through, less than remarkeable, and disorganizaed.
2. We distribute series focused invite cards to our people each week for the 3 weeks leading up to each series.
3. We mail out post cards designed and printed in-house. The post cards only go to our church database.
4. On the Saturday before the series begins, we saturate our target neighborhoods with full color, high gloss "club style" invite cards. Our team that does this each series consists of 20-40 people on a mission to distribute as many cards as possible in an hour and a half. We target densely poulated neighborhoods without front yard fences. The neighborhoods need to be new developments where people are moving into the community.
5. The week leading up to our series, we set our autodialer to call all target zip codes. Our automated calls are no longer than 30 seconds and give an option to speak with a live person. This hardware was purchased from "Make My Calls, inc. for $1,000. We can make up to 4 calls per minute - 240 calls per hour - 2,400 calls per day -16,800 calls per week.
The 5,000 "club style" invite cards cost $250 to print. The post cards we print in-house are paid for within our copier lease. the only other cost is the cost of our postage to our database. The results are not predictable. This is not a formula for success. But, it is the strategy we use to raise the level of awareness for what God is doing in our church. It is one of the strategies we use for releasing our people into the Harvest.
