Flatfoot Friday

The weather is killer today!  It's Sunny and 69 degrees!  We're heading outside...probably to Lincoln Road on Miami Beach to enjoy my day off.  Great shops, treats, and great sidewalks for a walk with the girls kids.  Then, we hit the Flatfoot 56 and The Saturn Project concert tonight at our building...which probably won't be our building for long.

The Saturn Project is leading worship and playing a couple of their songs at Life Pointe on Sunday in both services.  TSP is Jesse's band.  If the only music you jive to is Kiss, you probably won't like them.  But, if you actually enjoy good music, you'll be all over a TSP album.

Anyway, they're in from Chicago on tour.  Alex (the beat machine) is dying to move here.  Who knows...maybe we'll let him one of these days.  In the meantime, we're enjoying having the guys in with us.

Perhaps, the Lord Will Help Us

I'm a fighter.  It's true.  In fact, I was tempted to jack up some child-directed parent in Southland Mall the other day because they were ganging up with their mini-thug of a child and both of them were physically handling my kid.  Of course, I had to be wearing a Life Pointe T-shirt...I guess they won't be checking us out any time soon.

But, on to a more redemptive fight.  Jonathan, in this passage, is looking at the Philistines across the ravine.  His dad is lying down under a pomegranate tree, not leading the army.  He turns to the other guy (there's a total of two of them vs. thousands of Philistines) and says, "Let's fight...I hope God helps."

I'm looking at Homestead and Miami...itching for a fight with the devil.  Perhaps, the Lord will help us.

Some people shut off the comments.  I say let the feedback keep coming!...I've really enjoyed the conversation, new friendships, and the great little community, my humble vurtual home has become.  Thanks for sharing life, ideas, and experiences with me.

Sunday Wrap-up

• I hung out with the setup crew last night from midnight until 2.
• These guys are giants.  I had a blast trying to stay out of their way.
• The 9 AM service had 11 families that were first time guests ...our best 9:30 crowd so far.
• 21 first time families altogether!
• The 10:30 service was slammed full. 
• We'll definitely free up some more seats next week (feel free to move over to the 9 am).
• Alex (Jesse's brother) rocked the drums.
• He needs to ditch Salvador and hook up with Life Pointe.
• Chris Day's video was amazing (1st 39 weeks of following Jesus).  When it hits YouTube, I'm linking to it.  Every pastor and follower of Jesus that gives a rip about reaching the unchurched needs to watch it.  You can also catch the video and the message tomorrow around noon at likeus.tv.
• I can't wait to see the connection cards.  19 people indicated they were choosing to follow Jesus today.
• After connecting with as many new people as I could, I slipped out the back door and drove to Cutler Bay for lunch at Sal's Italian Restaurant in Southland to handle some business that will move us forward into a new phase of ministry.  It seems like everything is coming together.  I should be able to share some news on Friday at the latest.
• In just a minute, I'm heading to Dolphin Cinemas to hook up with about 150 people from Life Pointe to watch Bella...going to be a heck of a lot of fun.
• I promise to be on good behavior (fingers crossed).

A Hair Cut for a Guy (I'm begging here)

I just want a freakin' haircut ok?!?!

Sometime back, I vented about how I can't find a decent place to get a haircut.  I'm back again.  Here's my problem from the place I thought I had found for a good cut.

• this place is too chatty,
• too estrogen filled,
• it keeps schizophrenic hours,
• blames me for expecting them to open and close according to their posted hours,
• is too pink
• gets me high on perm and hair dye fumes,
• only has magazines for chicks

Here are some suggestions:

• Open and close according to your hours (simple right?),
• be guy friendly without being a "barber shop" and turning me into Ward Cleaver,,
• subscribe to SI, Newsweek, or one of many tech mags,
• try using earth tone colors,
• Don't gossip with someone in another chair...pay attention to my skull,
• Put some plasmas on the wall and let me watch the news at least
• Before you put gel in my hair, ask....I hate that stuff.
• Button my neck down super tight.  I hate catching cut hair in my shirt...its uncomfortable.

Now, if I can find a place like that, I'm there.  But, for now the search is back on.  I'm swearing of chick salons, Hair Cuttery (you never know what you'll get, especially since no one speaks English there), and definitely barber shops (you tell them how you want it cut and then walk out like the last guy).  I'm open for suggestions....desperately open.

A Stack of Free Movie Tickets for You

I have a great treat for you!  This Sunday, we'll have a stack of free movie tickets to a great new movie called "Bella" at the Life Pointe Church lobby info booth.  Stop by the booth and sign for the tickets for you and any friends you'd like to take out for a movie Sunday night.

Our tickets are for a select showing of the movie at Dolphin Mall Sunday night @ 7:30 PM ONLY.  We have a total of 300 tickets we're giving away on a first come, first serve basis. That's a good reason to attend the Sunday 9 am service and free up some seats at the 10:30!. So, get there early and ensure that you and your crew have complimentary tickets for a great night out. 

"Bella" just won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival.  We want you to have a great group date with your friends, hang with the awesome people that call Life Pointe home, and walk away with some questions to discuss about life.

That's about $3,000 in movie tickets to give away.  Thanks to Miami Youth For Christ for helping with this. Anyway, we're going to have a blast!  I, for one, can't wait to hang with you guys at the theater at Dolphin Mall...it's gonna be a blast.
